About This Project

I create simple still-life images from everyday antique and modern household objects, flowers and fruit. The light and shadows are as important to me as shapes and textures.

The relationship between the objects as I arrange them is critical – they should harnonise in their tone and form. I like using glass objects as their reflections add another dimension.

Beauty can be found in many everyday objects and it is this that I try to capture. My work is mostly film-based in black and white, hand printed onto fibre based paper. I work in either very high-key or very low key – I enjoy the technical challenge this brings.

In the future – I am working with a digital camera which has opened up the use of colour and making abstract images.

Influences – Jean Chardin, Georgio Morandi, Picasso, Paul Nash.
Andre Kertesz – an Hungarian photographer – street photography, often with a still-life element.
John Blakemore – Fay Godwin
