Robert Wallis is an artist “made in hampstead garden suburb“ after moving from Belsize park to live in the country. He has travelled widely in his life around the 3 miles from where he was born in St John’s Wood.
He mainly travels in his imagination and came across painting from his quest to recover from the grey white wash he experienced at school and the numbness of training as a chartered accountant. His work can can be taken on composition and colour- yet his real interest is in combining the imaginal world and the physical through portals or places where the two worlds seem to touch each other – he starts from an image and superimposes the imaginal realm as he dives deeper into the ocean of imagination.
He is one of the founders of the Art Stables in Finchley where you can find him painting or supporting others to find their individual mark-making talents who were discouraged from their creative pursuits – or just want to rediscover their gifts .
He paints only in oil and is inspired by life, what he sees in front of his nose, making mistakes and travelling. He is indebted to certain painters and creative souls through out the ages -particularly Phillipa Cleydon and Denzil Forrester who spoke to him in a way he could be inspired by. He draws from nature scenes, buildings and Animalia.
Rob offers originals plus prints of his works unframed or framed .
He has exhibited with HGS ART, the Art Stables plus the New North London synagogue.
